Grammy fall O_O
My grandmother (grammy) practically raised me growing up. She was always there after my parents divorced, so she's like a second mother to me (even though my mom and dad were around and attentive). Adam and I lived with her for five years after our marriage before we got our own place.

She has been living with Adam and me for about a month now. We've been keeping an eye on her, making sure she's eating right, etc. So yesterday, she and I were out doing a couple errands and while we were at the post office she passed out and fell on the hard concrete there. We had to go to the emergency room and were at the hospital from three in the afternoon until nine-thirty at night, then this morning from eight to one waiting to hear from the doctor. Late this evening she was released and we got her home. Luckily she has no fractures or breaks, but she has severe back pain from the fall. They think she might have passed out because of either the heat and being a bit dehydrated or from the Arecept (for her memory loss), so they're taking her off that med just to be sure. I just hope she heals fast because she's in so much pain right now she cries when she tries to get up and walk. She has to put most of her weight on me to get her from here to there.

My heart just broke a little reading this. I live with my Nana, who pretty much raised me while i was young so i know how you feel, being so close. She is really lucky to have you there to take care of her. I wish her a quick recovery!

omg! I'm so sorry to hear that. How scary! But thank god there are no breaks anywhere. That's a good sign, and I really hope she gets well soon!

Aw, that's sad. My grandfather fell off of the second story of his house last year and his hip has never been the same, I hope when your grandmother heals she won't have any enduring pain afterwards like he does. :/ They couldn't give her medication for the pain, though? Or at least crutches or a wheelchair or one of those walker-with-a-seat things to help the poor woman out? :(

hello Gina. I am very sorry to hear about your grandmother's situation.I hope she has a fast painless recovery. I can relate to living with my grandmother (98) when I attended FIT and how much she's always looked after me academically and guidance.During that huge black out I was glad to be with her.Last year she had a terrible accident where she fell on the sidewalk fracturing her foot and the side of her forehead.Right now she is hanging in there. I don't know the medical care laws in Georgia very well, but you should see if there is anyway for her to get a electrical scooter or a walker to get around the house and locally. Those really come in handy. Just keep giving her alot of water and fluids throughout the day.

I'm so sorry. I'm glad she didn't break anything, but I wish she wasn't in pain. I will think positive thoughts that she heals quickly.

I'm so sorry to hear this. My dad's mom used to have "fainting spells" as they called them. She never broke anything falling but had sprains and back pain often. She always said, "at least if I'm falling down it means I was able to stand up."

Best wishes to all of you.

I'm sorry to hear this too...
my maternal grandpa and grandma practically raised me too, and my grandfather had to have an operation for his spinal problems not too long ago. The hospital doesn't advise operations on his spine any more due to his advanced age and he has to have injections into his spine to manage the pain. He's still really active though despite that, even though it means he is a little less mobile.
will be praying for your grandmother!
